Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf is a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Fisheries) cadre. He joined the Department of Fisheries as a Thana Fishery Officer through the 11th BCS in 1993. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held various significant positions in the department, including Thana Fishery Officer, Research Officer, Farm Manager, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer, Assistant Director, Senior Assistant Director, District Fisheries Officer, Deputy Director (Marine), Deputy Director (Shrimp), Deputy Director (Administration), Principal Scientific Officer (Fish Inspection and Quality Control), and Additional Director General. He has successfully and efficiently performed his responsibilities in all these roles.
Dr. Md. Abdur Rouf was born on January 1, 1967, in an esteem Muslim family in the village of Dubar Char, Kamarer Char Union, Sherpur Sadar Upazila, Sherpur District, Bangladesh. He is married and is the father of two daughters and a son.
He completed his SSC from Kamarer Char High School in 1981, his HSC from Sherpur Government College in 1983, and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries (Honors) from the Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, in 1987. He later completed his MS degree in 2008 and was awarded a prestigious PhD from the same university.
As part of his government duties, Dr. Rouf has participated in various study tours and training programs in Thailand, Nepal, India, and Germany. He has also represented the country in several conferences and workshops. Additionally, he traveled to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj pilgrimage. He is a member of the Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh (KIB) and the BCS (Fisheries) Cadre Association, as well as the Bangladesh Agricultural University Alumni Association.
