The department of Anatomy and Histology is one of the oldest department, which started its activity since 1961 when the university was established. It is a centre of excellence for learning anatomy, histology and embryology.

It is one of the most spacious and well-equipped department. The department is involved in teaching and training at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Well-equipped comparative anatomy museum, histology and gross anatomy laboratories are available in this department. The Department of Anatomy and Histology conducts basic research in neurobiology and cell biology.

The Department houses the "Tissue Preparation and Histochemistry Unit". Histology laboratory provides all facilities for microscopic tissue preparation. It is equipped with 30 different types (monocular & binocular) of light microscopes. The laboratory is decorated with a large number of microscopic figures.
