Department was established in 1963 in order to equip students of the Bangladesh Agricultural University with basic sociological knowledge so that they can deal with social intricacies effectively while working with rural community. We study the dynamics of rural, local and regional development and transformation processes in developing countries like Bangladesh. Particular focus of our study is on actors and institutions at different levels in which transformation processes occur and are shaped. We analyse these transformation processes from an explanatory sociological perspective using mixed, combining quantitative and qualitative, research methods.
