Bangladesh predominantly depends on agriculture, for its vital contribution in the survival of an ever increasing population in the country. As such there has always been a special interest in the policies that influence human and physical resources used to supply quality food in adequate quantity at a reasonable cost.
Since agriculture provides the most important basic needs e.g. food and fibre throughout the world, societies are concerned about the growth, development, and stability of agricultural production and distribution. Thus an understanding of some principles of economics that are applied to production, distribution, and consumption of farm and food commodities is important for those who study agriculture.
The Department of Agricultural Economics at the Bangladesh Agricultural University offers various important courses across the university to equip its students with necessary knowledge of major economic principles and theories for understanding the complex interplay of factors of an economic system.
