Soil is the lifeblood of our planet. Therefore maintaining soil health is vital for a nation's food and nutrition security and environmental safety.

Bangladesh is facing greater challenge for feeding its teeming population against a backdrop of a changing climate and growing competition for land, water, labour and energy. Founded in 1961, Department of Soil Science, under the faculty of Agriculture, had appeared as the pioneer in Bangladesh in providing high quality education and research opportunity in all branches of Soil Science and got wide range of scope to support capacity building of both government and non-government organizations to promote sustainable agricultural development. The research focus of this department is highly concentrated to enhance soil resilience and resistance to climate change towards improved ecosystem services of soils for food safety and security. Our alumni (MS and PhDs) are well placed at universities, government services, and private sectors. There are numerous opportunities for students to be involved in cutting edge research related to diverse areas of research on food security. Currently, our world-class faculties are awarded with more than $ 1.5 million in research. We extend our sincere thanks to the government of Bangladesh, national and international funding agencies, collaborators, sponsors, and students who help in conducting high quality research, teaching, and extension programs. Along with an outstanding learning experience we promise personal and individual attention to our students. Our faculties are very cooperative and friendly to the students. Many of our students receive scholarship support, and internships and study abroad opportunities are available for expanding their horizons. As a team, our faculty and stuff work closely to meet the demands of our growing enrolments and expanding commitments in academic activities, research and public engagement.
